Maura Healey and the MBTA prepared to celebrate the milestone removal of all slow zones from the Boston-area subway tracks on Monday, another track-related issue caused delays for some passengers. A reported cracked rail near JFK/UMass was causing delays on the Red Line’s Braintree Branch. MBTA officials previously reported a signal issue but updated that statement to report a cracked rail near Wollaston. As a result, train service operated on a single track between Quincy Center and Braintree and shuttle buses replaced service between JFK/UMass and Quincy Center. “The Track Department is on scene working to resolve the issue,” the MBTA wrote in a statement.
