The governor is tasking state agencies with exploring strategies to increase affordable housing availability and reinstating the homebuyer assistance program.
ILLINOIS, USA — Illinois Go. J.B. Pritzker signed an executive order to help with affordable housing statewide on Thursday.
The order directs state agencies to examine ways to expand attainable options for families.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, nearly one-third of Illinois households spend more than 30% of their income on housing and is using that metric to measure whether housing is a cost burden for families.
Pritzker plans to establish the Illinois Director of Housing Solutions to be in charge of increasing the housing supply, reduce costs, and improve access for middle-income families.
