PELHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – The city of Pelham is installing more traffic cameras to help improve traffic flow along major intersections in the city.
The city council approved a resolution for 12 more traffic cameras to be installed along Highway 31 and 52.
The city now has 24 traffic cameras, 12 of which were installed last year. After positive feedback from residents, 12 more are on the way.
These cameras come after citizens voiced their concerns on traffic congestion.
City leaders found that some of the loop technology installed in the ground at certain intersections was old and faulty.
They then decided to invest $1 million into getting these cameras that are equipped with video and thermal detectors, triggering the traffic signals more efficiently and accurately.
