New research reveals Irish consumers’ Black Friday habits [Video]

More than 80% of Irish shoppers buy something in the Black Friday sales new research from DMG Media has found.

Black Friday is the Friday after Thanksgiving in the United States which this year falls on Thursday, November 28th.

What has been the traditional starting gun for the seasonal shopping frenzy in the US has also left an indelible mark on Irish buying habits here.

The sales, believed to have started in Philadelphia during the 1960s, have migrated to these shores in recent years to become a major part of the pre-Christmas spending spree.

The DMG survey, which had 900 responses, also found 69% of people spent between two to four weeks researching what they would buy before the sales.

The vast bulk, 79%, of those surveyed were between 25 and 54 years old while just over half or 54% of the parents surveyed had two or more children under 18 at home.
