Luke Littler will face Michael van Gerwen in the World Darts Championship final. Three-time champion Ban Gerwen was in ruthless mood to book his place in the showpiece event, dropping just one set as he thrashed Chris Dobey, and Littler followed it with a 6-1 win of his own over Stephen Bunting.
It had been expected that tonight would bring a repeat of last year’s final between Littler and Luke Humphries, but the defending champion was beaten by Peter Wright in the fourth round, before Bunting then eased past Wright. That had raised the possibility of crowd favourite Bunting making a run at the title, but Littler brought an emphatic end to his tournament.
Van Gerwen came through an epic clash with Callan Rydz in the quarter-finals but was rarely tested against Dobey. The Dutchman at 24 is the youngest man to win this tournament, but there is every chance that Littler smashes that record tomorrow night. …
