If there’s one thing the Lions have proved in 2024, it’s that they are more than capable of competing in a shootout.

From their conquests of Seattle and Minnesota earlier in the season to more recent outbursts against the Packers and Bills, Detroit seems to have a knack for this whole scoring thing. And Monday night matchup against the 49ers did little to knock Dan Campbell’s side off course.

Fueled by heroics from Jared Goff and Jahmyr Gibbs, as well as timely takeaways via a pair of Kerby Joseph interceptions, Detroit emerged victorious, downing San Francisco, 40-34, in a modern-day ESPN classic.

Goff — 26-of-34 passing for 303 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions — bested his opposite number, Brock Purdy, who put up strong numbers himself — 27-of-35 passing for 377 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
