Customers voice water woe frustrations in Mingo County [Video]

MINGO COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – It was a standing-room only crowd at the Mingo County Public Service District board meeting Tuesday morning in Naugatuck.

Jesyka Justice was among the customers voicing frustration over recurring outages and brown water.

“Do you have any idea how hard it is to clean up vomit with no water?” Justice, who lives in Goodman Hollow near Williamson, said.

As to how this month’s problems began, Mingo PSD General Manager JB Heflin said, “We had a perfect storm with the river raising up 10 feet overnight. It just made that water pretty much impossible to treat for a while.”

Vacuum trucks were brought in last week to suck sludge and slurry out of ponds and containments at the facility, according to a county commissioner.
