Cattlemen and ranchers work to find ways to beat the drought, draft resolution for better drought mapping [Video]

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA)—With grass as dry and brittle as it has been, it presents more challenges to producers in South Dakota for keeping their cows happy and healthy. South Dakota Cattlemen’s Association member Eric Jennings Recently spoke with me about his experience handling these drought conditions.

“Oh it’s been pretty darn dry. We did have a little bit of moisture there at the end of August, and it greened up pretty nice and was looking like it was going to be a good fall. Then, it quit raining again, and it got hot, and dried everything up,” said Jennings.

With a drought like this one, Jennings has to think on his feet.

“I’ve got a pasture that doesn’t have any water. The dam is dry, and it’s been dry for a couple of years now, so I put a water line in that this fall so we’ll be able …
