Capitals’ Ovechkin Scores Another Goal to Pull Within 23 of NHL All-Time Record [Video]

Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin scored in the third period of the Capitals’ 7-4 win over the New York Rangers on Saturday afternoon, bringing him within 23 of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time scoring record.

The goal boosted the Capitals to a 5-3 lead. Rangers centerman Vincent Trocheck won the faceoff in his own end and the puck bounced off of defenseman K’Andre Miller to Ovechkin, who anticipated the play, and the puck was buried behind goalie Jonathan Quick.

Ovechkin finished off the day with two points, adding an assist on Tom Wilson’s empty-netter.

The future Hall of Famer is picking up right where he left off before fracturing his fibula and missing 16 games. Ovechkin led the league in goals before his absence due to injury began in November.

He has scored four goals in the five games he’s played since returning.
