CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University is mourning the loss of one of its own.

University President Michael Benson announced on Tuesday that Travis Overton died. Overton served on the President’s Council as vice president for executive initiatives and chief of staff, according to his bio.

In that role, Overton supervised CHANT411, information technology services, scheduling and event services, university marketing and communication and helped with operations of the Office of the President.

“Devastated by the news today [Tuesday] of the passing of my friend and colleague, Travis Overton,” Benson wrote on X. “All of us are heartbroken.”

Overton had been with the university since 2007.

It is unclear how he died.
